The Mattingly family were first settlers of St. Mary’s County, MD. Walter Mattingly born circa 1738 MD probably St. Mary’s or Prince Georges County. He died on Wythe Co, VA before 1800. His wife was Mary possibly Elswick, Ratliff, or White). She died probably Wythe Co, VA abt 1800. Married 1770, probably MD.

Walter Mattingly resided in Montgomery Co, VA during the American Revolution. He is listed as a soldier in Montgomery Co, VA militia in Captain William Bobbets Company.
